New Planet Q TV website redesigned launched….

Planet Q TV is breaking away from Click Click Expose to be it’s own stand alone website and entertainment destination website.  I have completed about 75% of the changes to the website and you can see it here at: www.planetq.tv.  Except for some fine tuning of graphics, text and links – the site home page will pretty much look that way (unless I come across a web designer who can help me create a different look).  The next step is to create a functional and interactive flash video player for the site (which will allow us to migrate away from the Brightcove player).  If you are a flash developer or know how to create flash video players with databases – I could sure use your help – drop me a line: customerservice@planetq.tv.

I hope you like the new look – the goal of the site is to bring together gay and lesbian video content producers from around the globe and give them a destination website to showcase their work to everyone around the world (while still keeping their brand and their identity).  In addition to the amateur or professional video person – this site is also designed for the everyday man or woman on the street – who likes to use their cell phone, their camera  or their own video camera to shoot video about the gay and lesbian community.

I am excited about Planet Q TV and what it can do for our community.  I hope you agree and will come on board.  Leave me your comments, suggestions  – tell me what you like and don’t like – BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY  don’t forget – upload your videos today.  You Tube is nice, Daily Motion is cool – but these sites all focus on EVERYONE – gay, straight, man, woman – and every subject in the book.  Planet Q TV is designed for one community and one community ONLY – our gay and lesbian community – and what matters the most to us.

Yes…we can…

One of the reasons I am in this business is to share the great things that people create through video that can be shared with the world.  It’s that creativity that drives me and keeps me going.  One of my good friends from college (who I just found out several months ago was gay) shared this video with me so I wanted to share it with you guys.  I am not here to say who would make a better President or who should win – but I think the message is clear…YES WE CAN ..make a difference…each one of us in this big world of ours.  I hope you like it.

Technology and diversity – why don’t they go together

So I am sitting here in the press room of the Photo Marketing Association in Las Vegas (yes another trip to Sin City) and I am looking around at the pre-coverage – the press people who have arrived early, folks who want to attend the technology classes and seminars before the trade floor opens – and one thing stands out in my mind!!  There is not much diversity in these conferences.  Over the last couple of years, I have gotten to attend from the press perspective – 4 very unique technology driven conferences and trade shows in the country (CES, PMA, CTIA and NAB) and all four only have the middle age white guys, the japanese executive and teams from their respective companies, a decent showing among white women but very very few Latins, African Americans or asians (outside of the Japanese contingent).

That bothers me – not only because they are not here – but because it seems to reflect the growing disconnect between the technology gains that are happening in our country and the ability of those gains to reach people of color in our country.  This is readily apparent when you go to any school in suburbia compared to the inner city – the technology disparity is HUGE!!!  I am all for technology making our lives easier, improving our way of life, giving us “new” toys to play with – I just wonder if EVERYONE gets to benefit from these things.

Two weeks ago, I got to see some amazing technology at the Consumer Electronics Show.  Technology that would definitely enhance our way of life (everything from one computer controlling everything in your home from safety to temperature to TVs bigger than your daddy’s cadillac) – but only a a select handful get to attend this show every year, only a tiny fraction of our society might take the time to read the blogs & tech sites to see what technology is out there and how many of us can afford or will by these new advances?  Will these new advances filter down to every community?  Will every community have some buisness or home that can showcase the wave of the future?

When the internet first became popular, i always worried that the disenfranchised in our society was not going to have equal access and equal opportunity.  Many are still playing catch up but now I wonder where new technology will fall?  Where is the minority press at these events (BET, Telemundo), where is the gay press at these events (Logo Online, Advocate) – These new technologies (once you get past the marketing glitz and glamour) have great potential in our lives and the future but if our voices are not out there spreading the news and if the technology is not in the hands of the disenfranchised – then we will always be stuck as a society of haves and have nots.

just some thoughts to ponder as I set about my work this week.  By the way – PMA is the Photo Marketing Association International Trade Show – it is the largest digital imaging  and digital camera trade show in the country that focuses on Photography and all of the technology involved in digital imaging.  And how many of you ever heard of the show????

What’s the big deal….

I have been away from the blog for a while as I had to redesign the Empire Video website and finish up some projects but I am back to drop some funny wisdom and give you some updates.

whatsthebigdeal.jpg

Has anybody looked at the positions of the presidential candidates in reference to same sex marriage?  All of the republican candidates oppose same sex marriage, a couple (Romney & Thompson) oppose civil unions and a couple won’t go on record if they support civil  unions.  The Democrats (who are suppose to be the gay man’s friend) all oppose same sex marriage (how convenient except for Dennis Kucinich & Mike Gravel) but support civil unions (except for a couple who have not gone on record in support of civil unions).  I hate politics – how a matter such as the ability to marry my partner of 14 years – is an “issue” in today’s world baffles me – and the democratics (like all politicians) are just not willing to lay it on the line but rather play it politically safe.  Why bother!!!

IN MORE FUN NEWS….I have put 5 new videos on Planet ‘Q’ TV (now at: www.planetq.tv).  There is a 2 part story aired by the CBC in Canada on being gay in Iran, there is a private roundtable talk about being black and gay in America, an internet tv travel show on Shanghai with an episode called “Gay Shanghai” and a funny commercial spoof that asks the question: “Tired of Women?” – Be gay today!!  Have fun and enjoy the videos.  DON’T FORGET…we will be kicking off the new planetq.tv in March so if you are video content producer – don’t forget to upload your videos or contact us on how to share your videos for the gay community and get paid in the process as well.  Its videos for us and by us – the gay and lesbian community.  – BOOMARK PLANETQ.TV TODAY!!

Is this in poor taste….

What happens when you put 5 to 10 guys in their early 20s together, give them press credentials and let them cover the Consumer Electronics Show.  Normally, you might get an interesting take on technology that tends to be adopted by the “young” crowd first before everyone else….BUT….did the guys at Gizmodo go to far by walking around the trade floor shutting off TV displays and interrupting presentations….what do you think?? Watch the video below

IS THIS IN POOR TASTE?  DID THEY GO TOO FAR?

CES – Consumer Electronics Show (Last Day)

Well today was the last day of CES 2008 – it went out with a wimper rather than a bang.   Last night, I had to play editor and clean up  a video news piece that was done wrong by my client’s staff writer.  So its 1 am in the morning and the staff writer and me are sitting here doing voice overs and finding ways to fix the video that went horribly wrong.  GO FIGURE!!! What was the mistake you say? – well we took a trip over to the adult entertaiment expo to look for a porn star who would come back with us (no not to our room – a woman are you kidding) to shop for camcorders.  The premise of the story was “what would a video porn producer use in the way of consumer video equipment.”  Well if you saw the two videos from yesterday’s blog post, that same staff writer (who edited those videos) was turned lose to produce and edit this video.  Now, you can imagine what the video might look like or how crazy the video was going to be based on what this staff writer did before.  Well I was the camera man and my job was to just film – didn’t know what the big boss wanted, no storyboard, no game plan shared with me – just go film.  —  MAN WHAT A MESS—-   I never saw the original draft but the CEO was pissed.  Well to make a long story short, after fussing by the CEO becasue the staff writer made a totally inappropriate piece of video, the CEO and I made a completly new video from the raw footage that was shot.  That, my friends, was very very difficult.  It was either scrap the project or try to save it – so we tried our best out of respect for the staff writer and the project to save it.   So it took 7 hours for us to make a 3 minute video.  Here’s the result:

Here are some pictures from the CES show this year that you might also enjoy.

Well another CES show is done.  This was my 2nd time to go to it.  This year was very disappointing – no really new technology was announced – just kind of a rehash and update of the same thing.  There is one thing to take note of – if you are following the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray war – well movie studio Warner Brothers announced that they are leaving HD-DVD to go Blu-Ray – this might spell the death of HD-DVD in the near future – WE SHALL SEE.

Only a women….

reindeer3.gif

REMEMBER THIS AT CHRISTMAS TIME According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December.   Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa’s reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl. We should’ve known… ONLY women would be able to drag a fat-ass man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.

A quarter of a million views…..

WOW….for the last 12 months we have been working hard to put up a wide assortment of videos, podcast shows, blogs and internet radio that we have created and/or received from around the internet.  You will find our videos and/or podcast shows on You Tube, Brightcove, Dailymotion, AOL video, Google Video, iTunes, Imeem, blip.tv, justin.tv, Veoh and Metacafe (sorry we haven’t joined the my space crowd yet).  And the goal behind all that was to let folks know about the terrific diversity of content that we have on our site that keeps growing every day.

WE HAVE ACROSS ALL SITES….over 1/4 of a million video and audio views (not including our pageant pay per view service).  To me that’s amazing…..and those videos, music and podcast shows are across the entire world on practically every continent (except maybe Greenland and the Antarticas – LOL).

mapusa2.jpgcountries_europe_map2.jpg

Why do I share this?  TO JUST SAY THANK YOU….Some of you remember us back in the day when we were a little bitty company called Black Stylez Entertainment and we filmed our first show at Club Incognito in Houston, Texas.  That was way back in 1996 and we have been going ever since.  We are working hard to provide a fun, informative and mulit-media centric web site and boy have we changed.  We hope you are please with the outcome.

prideflat.gif

We have some cool things lined up for 2008 and with a little luck and good fortune – we aim for bigger and better things.  Please let us know what you like, what you hate and what you want to see us doing so we make the kind of website you will be proud to visit over and over again.  Tell your friends, keep coming back and help us make it better for you.  That is the only way we (or any gay video content producer out there) will survive.

So on behalf of Adrian, Tara, John, Jim, Al, Steve, Marlowe, Eric, DJ Joelapuss, DJ L Calderin, DJ Carlos Dali and DJ Louie B thanks for your continued support.  AND DON’T FORGET TO LEAVE US YOUR COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR 2008!!
