Drag pageantry will come alive in California January 12th – Don’t miss it!!

California EOY - Jan 12 - House of Blues, Hollywood, CA

California EOY - Jan 12 - House of Blues, Hollywood, CA

Forget what you think you know about drag because honey, it’s quite different from your perception.  Often when we refer to drag in the gay community, we refer to camp and burly men dressed in women’s clothes with makeup from hell and mother’s 1950’s dress.  If this is your perception of drag in our community, I invite you to take a look at the world of gay drag pageantry.  This art form of female illusion and male lead is a highly established, highly stylized and fierce competition between men and women in a variety of local, regional and national contests.  While “drag” has been a cornerstone of cabarets and live theatre since the Middle Ages, drag pageantry is said to have been established in the LGBT community in the 1970s in the post Stonewall era.

When you travel across the United States in search of drag pageantry, you think of such hot bed markets as Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas & the east coast.  These markets have been engaged in the world of pageant competition since the beginning.  California, on the other hand, has always been known for “camp and comedic,” according to Erin White, Executive Director of California Entertainer of the Year.  “Thankfully, California has moved into a new era with some of the most jaw dropping illusionist and formidable talents.”

The Entertainer of the Year pageantry system is one of the major “four” pageantry systems in the United States.  It is a system that prides itself on creativity and talent.  And because of this emphasis, dozens upon dozens of entertainers (since EOY’s inception in 1990) have coveted the title of Entertainer of the Year, FI and Mr. Entertainer of the Year.  California joins a list of more than 15 preliminary contests whose goal is to send the winner and first runner-up to the national contest in Louisville, KY.  Executive Director Erin White is excited to add California  to the system and feels with the huge pool of viable competitors in California, that his system has “a shot at taking the national title this coming year.”

Not only will the contest be exciting for both contestants and spectators, but this year’s preliminary pageant is also a major fund-raising event.  The “Heel Hate” silent auction is designed to raise money for the Matthew Shepard Foundation.  Starting on January 4th, people from all over the world will be able to bid on autographed high heels from celebrities including Jennifer Aniston, Shania Twain, Cyndi Lauper, Shakira, Paula Dean, Salma Hayek, Lauren Conrad and Lea Michele (from “Glee”).  If you want to bid on these items, head to the website “” or you can bid at the night of the pageant.  Another charity that the folks at California EOY are working on is the NOH8 Campaign who has been raising awareness on the issue of gay marriage through a year-long photo “silent protest.”  All of the contestants will have a NOH8 photo in the program and there will be a souvenir NOH8 poster of the contestants.

And if that wasn’t enough to entice you to come see the pageant (January 12, House of Blues-Sunset Strip in Hollywood, California), maybe the star-studded judges panel will.  Judges this year include: 2008 EOY winner Nina West, National Title Holder Alyssa Edwards, Actress, Author and 1999 Tennessee EOY winner Calpernia Addams, Singer, Dancer & Actress Aubrey O’Day, American model and television personality Holly Madison, Co-Director of Miss California USA Shanna Moakler and the producer of Logo TV’s Rupaul’s Drag Race Matthew Rose.

Needless to say, Click Click Expose is excited to be chosen as the official videographer of this year’s inaugural contest.  As you know, we have been filming gay pageants since the days of us getting our start in Houston, TX in 1996 – so our cameras have been around the block a few times – but never have we been more excited than coming into a new market with new ideas and a fresh outlook on the pageantry community.  Look out everyone, California EOY is looking to make its mark in the world of pageantry.

So details you say…details:  buy your tickets at: or the California EOY website at:  Ticket prices are: general admission $18.00,  reserved seating $25.00 and VIP Platinum seating $45.00.  Never seen an EOY contest before, check out this preview trailer we created of this year’s 2009 National contest or more than a dozen EOY preview videos on our very own video sharing website Planet Q TV (Just click on the button that says Planet Q TV).  This year’s contest will be held at the world-famous House of Blues – Sunset Strip on Tuesday, January 12, 2010.  Doors open at 6:30pm.  Showtime is at 7:00pm.  See you there…

Equality march proves that viral marketing is for real!

National Equality March 2009 - Washington DC

National Equality March 2009 - Washington DC

5 years ago if you told me that you could use the internet, a social networking site and a couple of internet videos to bring together thousands of individuals across the country to demand social justice and equality, I would have said you were crazy.  But in this new and crazy world we live in, it appears that viral marketing (for lack of a better word) can be the right ticket if used properly.

Enter the 2009 National Equality March on Washington DC.  While I can find no public information on the advertising budget for the National Equality March organization – it appears that the budget for advertising (that’s traditional advertising) was very little.  I saw no ads in the majority of the popular gay magazines, there was no ad in the online gay advertising network BUT WHAT I DID SEE was Facebook and twitter used relentlessly to promote the event.  And the result, over 200,000 people showed up for the event.

I think that speaks volumes on how businesses and organizations can speak and influence the LGBT community.  While traditional marketing still has a place in advertising – the power of the internet as a vehicle to promote and inspire change is in a word – breath taking.  Lord, I would have love to have known how much the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force spent on advertising when I went to the March on Washing in 1993.  It’s a new world – and viral marketing is the way to go.

If you went to the march and you took any video of the march or did a video blog, please share your gay and lesbian video stories of the National Equality march on our website:  It will be a great way for many of us who could not attend this year to really see what it’s like.  Trust me folks, its inspiring and truly amazing.  So share your videos with us on Planet Q TV and let us hear your stories about this year’s march.  And the real question is: will it make a different for LGBT folks across our country?  I think it will.

Will you march in Washington DC October 11th?

National Equality March on Washington DC

National Equality March on Washington DC

I remember back in 1993 when I was a field producer for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s March on Washington video. It was certainly a different time then when the idea of civil rights for all gay and lesbian people were still a struggle and I was so far in the closet, I could have hurt myself. It was a great experience being around so many like minded people who didn’t care if you were gay, straight or bi – they were all there to have a good time and to promote equality for all.

I won’t get to go this year as I have a filming project to attend on Sunday but if you get to go, WE HOPE YOU WILL SHARE YOUR VIDEO STORIES ON PLANET Q TV.   Planet Q TV was designed 2 1/2 years ago as a place where gay and lesbian video bloggers,  content producers and professionals could tell their stories in one unique place for our community.  I  would love to hear about your adventures, what you saw, what you liked or didn’t like and if you feel that equality is right around the corner for us or if we still have a long way to go.

Have fun this Sunday and if you are video blogging, I would like to encourage you to upload your videos to Planet Q TV so everyone around the world that visits our site can learn about your experience.

EOY Update #4 – 8/10/09 – New videos uploaded

Bianca Nicole at EOY 2009 - Talent Competition

Bianca Nicole at EOY 2009 - Talent Competition

Hey pageant fans,

Well after about 8 hours, I have finished with EOY DVD for Sunday night only.  I finished the first draft yesterday combining the two cameras together into one video (some of you saw the process yesterday as I broadcasted live on our internet TV channel).  Today, I went through the 4 hour video and took out all of the down time, talking in between categories etc.  Then I had to put in the names for all of the contestants for both Evening Gown and Talent and then create boards for all of the guest entertainers.  After that, I had to fix some audio anomalies (so annoying) and then I created the intro video montage before the actual pageant started.

I am pretty much done.  I haven’t created the DVD yet – I am still debating whether I am going to put in CG names for each contestant as they were announced at the beginning of the pageant (I am still waiting for a list of the contestant names and spellings) but other than that, I am finish.

Tomorrow, I will upload 10 hours worth of video (2 cameras for Saturday’s show) and then start that editing on Wednesday.  Unfortunately, since it takes 10 hours to move video to the computer – that will take up all of my day so I can’t really edit until Wed.

I posted 4 new videos on Planet Q TV all around what happened on Sunday night + I posted the presentation video we created for Xavier Cole for the men’s competition.  We hope you like the videos.  Well I am calling it a day.  Enjoy…until tomorrow…have a great week.

EOY Update #1 – 8/7/09

Sorry to all of our readers of this blog – the next few weeks are going to be full of pageant news and Entertainer of the Year news but I will try to mix it up.

Bianca Nicole - Entertainer of the Year, FI 2009 Winner

Bianca Nicole - Entertainer of the Year, FI 2009 Winner

1.  First I want to say congratulations to Bianca Nicole and Xavier Valentino Litter for winning this year’s EOY competition.  It was another fun year and fun pageant to watch.  Eric took pictures at Finals Night and I will have some of them up in a couple of days.

2.  Before I can start working on the EOY pageant DVD, I have to complete some projects that are on my desk prior to EOY.  Miami International Closetball fans – we haven’t forgotten about you.  I am capturing that video right now as I write this.  My goal is to finish that pageant by Saturday.  Congratulations to Lashawn Denne Chanel for winning this 1st annual pageant held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

3.  We are also in the process of completing a major duplication request (500 DVDs) along with a redesign of our corporate website: and some changes have to be made to the International Week 2009 DVD.  Needless to say, this week has been hectic.

4.  We had a great time meeting our fans and friends at EOY this year.  Thanks to all those who came to say hi and chat with us.  It is great talking to all of our supporters as we are always striving to make things better.

5.  Some people have asked if I am going to do a preview trailer for Saturday and Sunday nite.  The answer is yes – as soon as I have captured all of the video – I will knock out a couple of trailers to watch.  All preview trailers will only be on our video sharing website:  I will not have it up on You Tube until much later on this month.  Head to our website: and click on the button that says Planet Q TV – its our own video sharing website designed specifically for the gay and lesbian community.

6.  I have not taken down the pre-order special that is on our website.  Prices will go back up by $10 to $15 so if you haven’t order yet, do it now.  When I get a free moment, I will update the website and prices will go back up to our normal retail level.

7. CONTESTANTS – If you want your presentation video in the DVD – you must mail it to me this week.  When I start the editing next week, if I don’t have the DVD – it will not be included in the final product.

8.  WE HAVE WON OUR 3RD PRESENTATION VIDEO CATEGORY.  As you know (or may not know) – we have done presentation videos for contestants who desire our service.  Shae Shae LaReese and DeeRanged have used our presentation videos and they have won their respective pageants and/or categories.  We are proud that we did Xavier Cole’s video this year and while he was 1st runner up – he did win the presentation category.  We are 3 for 3 – woohoo – way to go Xavier – good job.

9.  That’s it for now.  Look for a new update in a couple of days.  I won’t be starting on EOY until probably Monday.  Any questions, just let us know – shoot me an email: or give us a call: 305-695-0095.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND and thanks for your continued support.

Clubland’s Wonder Woman – Kristine W

We have been given permission to publish an exclusive interview by Scott David with the Dancing Diva and Clubland’s Wonder Woman Kristine W. Gay clubbers all around the world know of her high energy music and soulful vocals as she has produced 13 No. 1 Billboard Dance hits – with her first hit single being “Feel What You Want.” While preparing for performances at an HRC Gala Dinner and the annual HIV/AIDS fundraiser Broadway Bares in NYC, Kristine W sat down with us for a few minutes to talk about her upcoming new album, “The Power of Music.”

You have become one of the top 5 Billboard dance artists along with Madonna, Janet Jackson, Donna Summer, and Mariah Carey (and she’s tied at No. 2 with Beyoncé for hits since 2000). Like those artists, you have a strong gay fan base. When did you first become aware of your gay following?

Kristine W – I first found out I was a gay icon when I flew from the UK to NYC and performed for a party being DJ’d by Junior Vasquez. I walked onto the stage in front of a few thousand hot, shirtless men and thought, “Wow, I have died and gone to heaven.” Then I quickly figured out none of them were interested in anything other than my voice (Kristine laughs)!! I have been in love with gay audiences ever since.

In addition to 14 new songs, the new CD features your 4 most recent No. 1’s, “Walk Away,” “Never,” “Love is the Look,” and your remake of Diana Ross’ classic “The Boss.” Since you write many of your songs, including winning an ASCAP Award for co-writing “One More Try,” how did you decide to take on Miss Ross and make “The Boss” and “I’m Coming Out”(a bonus iTunes track) your own?

Kristine W – My idols growing up in Washington state were Donna Summer and Diana Ross. I just loved them and was always singing their songs and studying them. When I decided to start my own record label in January of 2008, I knew “The Boss” would be the perfect first single to put out. I was taking control – being “The Boss” of my music, sink or swim – and I put all I had into that single and those remixes. It was so well received globally that I was really a bit taken back by it.

In addition to the singles, you independently released “The Power of Music,” and it is already a Top Five Dance Album on iTunes in its first week out. What were the biggest challenges releasing the singles and CD on your own label and being both businesswoman and artist?

Kristine W – The big challenges are always the same: time and money.

Like Diana, there are quite a few Kristine W drag queens. Who are your favorite drag performers?

Kristine W – That is why I featured Crystal Woods in “The Boss” video. I just wanted to pay homage to Crystal and those like her that bring so much joy to us all with their performances. I have so many favorites and there are so many talented drag queens across the US that the list would be a mile long. I have so much respect for drag queens because it is so demanding if you are a true artisan. RuPaul is the godfather, of course, and always amazes me, Chad Michaels (Cher) in San Diego, who is a friend and confidant, Crystal Wood (Miss Ross) in Las Vegas, and Laritza Dumont in Orlando. I make a point to watch them when I can because they inspire me.

Speaking of videos, the video for “Walk Away” is pretty hot, including the hunky male model. Did you cast him personally or did famed gay director/photographer Mike Ruiz find him?

Kristine W – Mike Ruiz found Matus Valent, and yes, he is a gorgeous man. We actually still keep in touch.

How do you like making videos compared to recording?

Kristine W – Videos are very demanding and time consuming. Honestly, I don’t really enjoy doing them but they are a necessity and a time capsule for the music. They are a lot more work then anyone knows and usually very unglamorous.

Did fighting leukemia earlier this decade and having friends with HIV/AIDS impact the themes of your songs and the many causes you support and actively promote in your blog?

Kristine W – Having battled leukemia for a few years, I understand what people with AIDS go through, waiting for your blood counts, hoping that you will stay healthy and not go backwards. AIDS and diseases of all kinds are an ongoing uphill battle for humanity. I am always humbled by how fragile life really is, and yes, it is always a part of my music.

Your new single, “Be Alright,” is an uplifting summer song, and the overall album is a great antidote to the current state of the world. How did “Be Alright” come about?

Kristine W – I actually wrote “Be Alright” four years ago with my guitar player Tommy Cameron while I was getting better and trying to stay in remission from leukemia. My grandfather died a few months after I got out of the hospital, and I was able to see him and spend time with him before he passed. I wrote the first verse after his funeral, and I was really missing him. He was failing while I was at the UCLA hospital. A huge fear of mine was that he would die before I got back to Washington to see him. I never told him I had leukemia and told everyone else not say anything. He was too frail and that would have put him over the edge. I would call him from UCLA and tell him I was fine, and I was actually terrified. That is the only time I ever lied to him. We were very tight, and I always wondered if he knew but didn’t say anything.

“Be Alright” features dance mixes by Hex Hextor, Offer Nissim, the Perry Twins, and more, including exclusive remixes on Masterbeat. Your songs are remixed by the top dance producers and DJ’s in the business. Are you ever surprised by the results?

Kristine W – I am always surprised by remixes, and that is why I love them so much. It is so fun to write a song and then hand it over to someone and have them bring their own interpretation. I am currently in love with the Perry Twins’ “Los Angels and Demons” mix of “Be Alright.” That mix is so full of emotion and takes me on a journey.

Your landmark show at the Hilton Las Vegas led to several “Entertainer of the Year” awards and even “Kristine W Day” on June 28th in Nevada. You just performed again in Vegas at the Miss USA pageant. As a former winner of the Miss America talent competition, did performing during this year’s Miss USA show bring back any crazy beauty queen memories?

Kristine W – Oh, yes!! I immediately remembered how cutthroat the pageant world is but that is life. It is a good but painful education.

What do your two young kids think when they see Mom turn into the larger than life performer you become on stage – singing live, playing instruments, wearing outrageous costumes, surrounded by a team of dancers?

Kristine W – They always ask when I am going to turn into Kristine W again. I am like Wonder Woman to them. One minute I am driving them to school, the next minute I am driving an audience crazy. I love it!! I am a true Gemini.

Click here for tour dates and more information. We will get one of her songs up on Planet Q TV. Make sure you head over and check it out in the music section.

New episodic videos found for Planet Q TV

I am always excited when I stumble across internet episodic videos by gay writers, filmakers or artist.  Last year I cam across “The duder show” and was extremely impressed with the  writing and quirky humor that grew on you.  I have come across another set of videos from some ladies in New York.  Called “U People TV,” creator and artist Hanifah Walidah and partner? Olive have put together a documentary, music video and 3 video blogs that I think you will find interesting.  Now just because they are lesbians doesn’t mean you can’t watch guys…come on…check it out…these sisters have it going on.

Other videos uploaded this week include a funny as shit comedy sketch on Project Runway from the guys at Creative Nation Station +gay travels in Martinique and 3 boys on a superhero mission called “The Tranny Force.”  We hope you like these new videos that we found and we give a shout out to all of the gay video content creators out there – your talents, humor and artistry make us proud.

Keep up the good work and more to come soon.  HAPPY WATCHING!!

New videos uploaded to Planet Q TV!!

Hey Planet Q TV fans.  We’re back (well we have never left) but we got behind by a week because I was in computer nirvana land building a new computer for the office.  Now that I have everything back in one piece (I love my new computer by the way- High Def, 500 Watt Logitech speakers, HD DVD/Blu Ray player, 24in LCD Monitor…hehe..damn life is good) – we have updated Planet Q TV with some new videos that we think you will like.

Our friends from in Canada have put together some more great auto reviews.  If you have not seen their videos – check them out – sleek, elegant with a touch of class like the cars they review.  Luxury auto reviews with a gay twist – courtesy of OutDrive.  Today’s update include the Infiniti G37S and the 2008 Audi Q7.

We also have the 5am remix of the gay pimp himself Jonny McGovern.  “Something For The Fellas” is one of his most popular songs – well check out the remix.  Speaking of music check out comedian Greg Scarnici’s alter ego BQE as he raps about being “Curious” liking guys and girls in this funny rap song.  Our last new music is from the group The Presets with “This Boy’s In Love” with lots of eye candy to look at.

Lastly, we travel to Paris with a video called “Lost in Francelation” – for all those people who love France but don’t quite understand what it’s all about.  From Ireland, we have the short film called “Chicken” about two guys trying to come to terms with the feelings they have for each other.

We hope you like the new videos.  More coming soon.  DON’T FORGET TO UPLOAD YOUR VIDEOS TODAY AND BE APART OF PLANET Q TV.

HD DVD vs Blu Ray vs DVD – WTF!!

Okay – unless you have been on another planet, you have probably heard (even though you may not care) – that Blu Ray has won the high definition battle. Hooray some people say…hold the phone – others are saying.

Personally I think everyone loses in this war. Let’s forget about the fact that: 1) consumers were screaming bloody murder about having to choose a format, 2) that consumers are slowly (and I do mean slowly) adopting high definition in their homes, and 3) we can even forget the fact that prices are very high for high definition players and the movies. If we forget all of those things – there is one thing that matters – Sony gets to now dictate whatever price they want to get you to adopt the new format of choice.

Now, of course, I can’t blame them for this. After all if you go back in time, DVD players were outrageously high for several years before people could afford them. Fast forward to the present and Blu Ray & HD DVD prices were cut drastically after only one year!! GO FIGURE!! You can bet your bottom dollar that manufactures were not making much money on their hardware or software. So now, you better believe that the Blu Ray folks are going to raise prices little by little in an effort to recoup what they loss when they had to battle HD DVD. That’s why I think we all will lose in this format war that ended last month. I forsee that there will not be an affordable Blu Ray player coming out anytime this year (I mean like sub $200 affordable). That sucks…I love high definition and when a movie or tv show or documentary is filmed, edited and transferred in glorious 1080i or 1080p – the video is too die for….but I will be damn if I will pay $400 for a Blu Ray player and $40 for a Blu Ray movie…ain’t going to happen. And what most people forget is that most movies are not shot in true high def – but rather film that is transferred to high def (unless maybe they are shooting in 4K with the Red One but I digress).

So would I buy a Blu Ray player right now? NOPE. Do we even offer high definition as an option for our customers to buy? NOPE. Will I buy one in the future? Yeah maybe a year or 2 from now when they figure out what profile spec they want to use, 1080p TV prices drop a little more and Blu Ray players drop prices some more – then yeah – definitely will do it. Will we offer it to customers and begin filming in High Def? A year from now – yeah we will be forced too…

But for now, what will I do instead? I did what most people think is crazy. I bought a HD-DVD player, bought a bunch of HD DVD movies at ridiculously low prices to finish out my collection and can now watch movies in glorious 1080p at a price to die for. Sure after May, there will be no more new HD DVD movies – but my player will upconvert all my standard DVDs to near HD quality, I have some great movies on HD (there are over 450 in the western market alone & 800+ globally) and I can enjoy high def now without destroying my pocketbook for the next year or two. When I am done, I expect to have maybe 30 HD DVD titles (maybe more) and a player that would normally have cost me $1100 but instead only cost me around $500. Now to bad a deal!!!

It is just a shame that the only gay movie right now out on High Def (that I know) is Brokeback Mountain!!
