ah ha….there is a gay character in the star wars universe

Filed under: Blogroll,click click expose,coming out,GLBT,homosexual,lesbian,queer — ccevideo @ 9:41 pm

Since my post a few days ago about my geekness over Star Wars…I knew that somewhere out there in the Star Wars lore – their had to be a gay character.  After all – us queers should be out there defending the republic, or the Sith, or the New Republic, or the…. but I digress.                                   Meet Juhani…

juhaniknightsoftheoldrepublic.jpg

Okay so here’s the back story…We have to go back in time…way way back in time to the era of the Sith and the video game Knights of the Old Republic.  When first meeting Juhani on Dantooine, you have the option of either killing her (yeah good luck), or beating her to submission and convincing her to return to the Jedi order(yeah even better luck here).   Of course if you do convince here to return to the Jedi order, she will join your party in the game. If you choose to kill her, another female Jedi at the temple will read you the riot act for murdering her beloved one—stating that she and Juhani spent many nights under the stars together (oh how romantic).  Later in the game, she will attempt to murder you for killing the love of her life. (Moral of the story – don’t mess with a scorn lesbian).

Okay…so if you don’t follow the dark side and you decide to have Juhani join you in the game, you will meet “Dak Veser” who has had history with Juhani (but my girl Juhani wasn’t having any of that – if you probe and ask the right questions, she will tell you in an in-game comment, that “Dak wasn’t her type.”  Later on in the game, if you choose to be a female character and you say and do the right things – she will actually confess her love to you – woohoo.

Okay…I know..I know…geek central..but I just had to tell you.  Now, the only thing I have to figure out is if Juhani is in the books or just in the video game.  I will let you know when I find out (if in fact you really care) but hey if you are a hardcore Star Wars fan..then you probably do…so let’s hear it for the lesbians…now just have to find my hunka hunka Star Wars man and I will be set………………………..:-)

So you want to be a witch…

With Halloween right around the corner, I thought it would be appropriate to showcase a video that touches on one of our favorite halloween characters and a character that gays love to talk about:  BEING A WITCH.  And the video wouldn’t be the same without having Eartha Kitt singing….

ENJOY!!!

Pageant Soup – Episode #10 is up…along with 4 new podcasts

pageantsoup10.jpg

Steve and Marlowe head up another episode of Pageant Soup with a full slate of guest on the show. Miss Gay America 2007 – Luscious, Owner of Power Diva Productions – Bradly Briegle and one of the contestants in this year’s Miss Gay America pageant Akasha Cassadine. We talk about what happen, share some advice and learn some of the challenges that the former Gay America went through in her reign. In our body and face category – we give advice to male contestants on how to “walk like a man & talk like a man, my child.”

Don’t forget we have a new sermon up, we have this week’s  gay news review, we have a new video on Talk Mess with Adrian and Thomas and our 56th queer history fact.   All of this is on the CCE Media Podcast Network – our network of podcast shows for the LGBT community. A slave to technology…..(unless you know better)

Filed under: click click expose, gay,GLBT,homosexual,Pageants,Video Production News — ccevideo @ 10:12 am

So last night I was hitting the computer tech sites because I wanted a new computer. Now I have to admit….this is more personal than business. Even though we have 3 editing workstations that work just great and even though they all need to be upgraded so that I can start doing high definition work (whenever we get around to doing that)…..I just wanted a brand spanking new computer to play better computer games on (Crysis anyone…).

So I was thinking about the enormous amount of money we spent on our workstations (in excess of $13,000) and I thought to myself…you would think I could get a good 5 to 7 years worth of use out of these computers. Boy was I wrong. As much as I love technology, we are all slaves to it and the money just keeps puring out of our wallets. My main workstation that I do most of my work on – I have already upgraded the power supply, upgraded the hard drives (all 4 of them), upgraded the gpu card, upgrade the DVD burner, added a firewire 800 card, added 4 external hard drives and its only 2 1/2 years old. DAMN…Somehow I think I am getting the short end of the stick here.

wefixtrucks.jpg

And the funny thing is if I wanted to do high definition on this workstation, if I wanted to play the latest and greatest computer games out there, if I wanted to encode faster what it takes me more than 5 hours to get a video up on pageant pay per view – I have to basically change motherboards, change processor and upgrade my memory – hell might as well buy a whole new computer. AND THAT IS WHERE THEY GOT YOU.

If you are a computer geek, you have wasted much dollars on new stuff every year or so. You realize it, you wearily accept it and you are in geek heaven when the new toy has arrived. If you are the average joe, you are tricked into buying new stuff that you probably really don’t need. Quad core computers are great but if you are not a video editor or computer gamer – it’s more computer than you will ever ever need. If you are a person who just surfs the internet and writes email – do you really need a direct x 10 card? And don’t get me started on Microsoft Vista – just because its prettier doesn’t mean its better – right now I wouldn’t touch Vista with a 10 foot pole – BUT I am forced to if I want to play Direct X 10 games (Crysis anyone…). So what will I be forced to do….Buy a new computer put Windows XP and Vista on the hard drive – use vista when playing my cool games and use XP for everything else…DAMN Bill Gates……

crysisscreenshot3.jpgcrysisscreenshot5.jpgcrysisscreenshot.jpg

And damn tech support for not supporting their own product even if its only a couple of years old because its too expensive to upgrade it properly – just force people into a new and more expensive product (Matrox are you listening…).

Anyway I am done ranting…. Don’t always believe the hype. Don’t be a slave to technology unless you are (like me) tied to it and you want it and need it. Unless you are hardcore, I guarantee you won’t ever need it or use it. My mom of 63 was so confused when I helped her buy a computer – the marketing people put such a spin out there – She couldn’t tell what was important and what was not – she visits websites, writes email and does cancer research. So I got here a dual-core hp computer ….. my mom the slave (:-) )….more computer than she will ever need…..

Have you hugged someone today!!

Filed under: click click expose,gay,GLBT,homosexual,lesbian,News,Planet Q TV — ccevideo @ 10:27 pm

So we go through life in our own little bubble – not trusting anyone or anything. We are afraid of the guy or gal who is across the street, we don’t want to make eye contact with the person who passes us by or we are afraid to offer a smile and a hello to a total stranger. It’s a shame that we live in a world like that.

So along comes a guy named Juan Mann – down on his luck, forced to move back to his home in Australia from London and things seem to be going downhill for him. What he needed most was someone to listen too, someone to talk too and someone just to give him a hug and wish him well. Thus he started the “free hugs” campaign. He held up a sign and offered free hugs to anyone who wanted one. For more than 15 minutes, people ignored him unsure of his motives or who he was. Then one young lady who was having a bad day needed a hug and got one. She left feeling better with a smile on her face. That one hug, led to another hug, which led to another hug – male or female, young or old, white or black – the simplest expression of gratitude and warmth was given freely to anyone who wanted it. CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO!

Here are the facts after some 13 months after this “free hugs” campaign was started:

Do you know that he was banned by the police and city officials for giving out free hugs because he didn’t have a 25 million dollar liability policy. He got a petition with 10,000 signatures on it to get the city to allow him to give out free hugs. This campaign has been all over the country and all over the world. There are cities, schools and counties that are trying to ban free hugs. AS A SOCIETY, HAVE WE BECOME SO PARANOID, SO DISTANT, SO UNCARING THAT GIVING SOMEONE A HUG IS A BAD THING?

This video to me is wonderful. It is a great idea and can really show how caring people can be. I hope you will be inspired to hug someone today. Whether its a stranger or your closes friend, we all can use a hug.

Star Wars…coming to a TV near you

Filed under: gay,GLBT,homosexual, lesbian,News,Video Production News — ccevideo @ 1:43 pm

If you know me well enough or listen to any of our older podcast shows, you know that I am a Star Wars geek. I admit it – I would love to be living in the Star Wars’ universe every day.  Any self-respecting fan of the movies knows that George Lucas has agreed to do a live action series (set before the time of New Hope) and an animated series of the Clone Wars. Needless to say, I was all smiles.  Of course about 6 months ago, my dumb ass actually discovered the whole expanded universe out there in books (well actually Adrian discovered it and bought me the first book in the New Jedi Order series) and I was off to the races. I am currently reading the 7th book in the New Jedi Order Series called “Edge of Victory Part 1 – Conquest.” I have to pace myself or I would read the whole book in a day and then I would be blowing all my money on new books (Adrian would not be happy LOL).  Of course, once I am done with the new jedi order, I will go back to the very beginning and start there – with over 100 books in the expanded universe, I will be very busy…

The question has been asked time and time again why have people fallen in love with these movies? I can remember watching episode 4 for the first time with my dad. I was reading the crawl on the screen out loud at the theatre [my dad told me to shut up (hehe)] and then the Imperial Star Destroyer raced across the screen shooting at Princess Leia’s corvette (that’s ship for the non geek) and I was hooked. The premise of the movie (good vs evil) seems so simple but the characters, their evolution, their place in the grand galactic scheme of things is amazing to me (and after all who wouldn’t want to be a light-saber toting bad ass).

Why do I bring up star wars (after all there is really no gay characters in it)?  But to be frank that doesn’t really phase me. The movies, the books and the characters are timeless. They really represent life at its simplest and life at its most complex. While good may always triumph over evil, there are so many shades of grey in the middle that it really makes you think about your role in life and your daily contribution. And no matter how small your contribution may be, it really can make a difference in the grand scheme of things.

My Coming Out Story (well sort of)

Quiet day on the video production front so I thought I would share some thoughts on coming out.  If you don’t already know October is gay history month and this month we also celebrate coming out.  When I listen to and read all of the stories about people who were brave enough to come out to family and friends, I can’t help but be amazed and impressed.  It takes courage – more courage than I ever had.  You know when I look back on my life experiences, my management career, my business, even doing security for 3 years – I have done some bold and courageous things – but deep down inside I never had the balls to come out to my family or friends.  To this date, they (my family) have no idea (although I am sure they suspect – after all I have been with my partner for 14 years) and I have told 1 childhood friend of mine who I have lost contact with.

 hate_free_zone.jpg

All of my life I have been scared of the consequences: losing a job, not getting promoted, being teased or laughed at or never quite fitting in.  So I played the double life, straight all of the time until I got home.  Imagine doing that for more than 15 years…wow..it is tough.  If it wasn’t for my partner Adrian – I think I would be a very depressed person.

 dontblameme.jpg

Doing this company and the things we have accomplished in the last couple of years is like therapy for me.  I have met so many interesting people and have learned a lot.  And even thought I can’t say I have a ton of friends or even a few friends, I can say I have a lot of acquaintances and people who I have grown to admire and respect.  It is still difficult for me to just admit to the average joe on the street that I am gay but I am slowly breaking down those walls, doing podcast shows, appearing on camera and just getting out there and making a presence.  I would have to say I am doing more in the gay community the last 2 years than I have done my entire life.

So what’s the motto of all this?  It is never too late.  Come out at your own pace but you know what?  Don’t wait too long and make friends along the way – even if its just one person – that one person can open your eyes and make life so much easier for you.  My life partner was my one person and he made all of the difference in the world.

I love internet TV!!

duder.gif home_over.gif

One of the great things about internet video and internet TV is that it allows so many people with creative ideas and talent to put content out there for all of us to enjoy. Mainstream Hollywood is so bland and boring to me with their cliche movies and scripted “we seen it before” stories – that originality, character development, and life’s realism go unnotice.

I came across a little gem of a comedy web show called “The Duder Show.” It is written by New York playwright and writer Matt Kirsch. He plays a gay character named Glen, along with his boyfriend Stephen and his straight friends (Ricky, Zev, Jen & Judy) and some of their happenings around New York. It’s cute, funny and the characters grow on you with their quirkiness. Check out Episodes 1, 3, 4 & 6 along with the Duder-logue and mini Duder episode on Planet “Q” TV.

It is because of what people like Matt Kirsch are doing that makes the internet one of the best places for GLBT people to put out funny, original and interesting video content. I don’t know if Kirsch is gay or not but I am glad that he included a positive, funny and interesting character in his sitcome.

Hope you guys enjoy the video. Also check out the dark comedic satire call “Recruiting – The Straight Agenda.” I have included it in Planet “Q” TV as well. I hope that having one place to go to see videos for the gay and lesbian community is a good thing and that you guys are enjoying what we have assembled for you to watch.

20 ways to maintain a healthy level of insanity

Filed under: click click expose, gay,GLBT,homosexual,News — ccevideo @ 11:27 am

As crazy as it gets around here sometimes with so much to do, it’s no wonder that we all don’t go insane.  So here is 20 ways that you can maintain a healthy level of insanity without going crazy.

1. At lunch time, sit in your parked car with sunglasses on and point a
hair dryer at passing cars. See if they slow down.

2. Page yourself over the intercom. Don’t disguise your voice.

3. Every time someone asks you to do something, ask if they want fries
with that.

4. Put your garbage can on your desk and label it “IN”.

 5. Put decaf in the coffee maker for 3 weeks. Once everyone has
gotten over their caffeine addictions, switch to espresso.

6. In the memo field of all your checks, write “For smuggling
diamonds.”

7. Finish all your sentences with “in accordance with the prophecy.”

8. Don’t use any punctuation.

9. As often as possible, skip rather than walk.

10. Order a Diet Water whenever you go out to eat – with a serious
face.

11. Specify that your drive-through order is “to go”.

12. Sing along at the opera.

13. Put mosquito netting around your work area and play tropical
sounds all day at work.

14. Go to a poetry recital and ask why the poems don’t rhyme.

15.  Five days in advance, tell your friends you can’t attend their
party because you’re not in the mood.

16. Have your coworkers address you by your wrestling name, Rock
Bottom.

17. When the money comes out of the ATM, scream, “I won! I won!”

18. When leaving the zoo, start running towards the parking lot
yelling, run for your lives, they’re loose!!”

19. Tell your children over dinner “Due to the economy, we are
going to have to let one of you go.”

20. And the final way to keep a healthy level of insanity: –
Tell somone to read this to make them smile. It’s called therapy.
